Knockhill

About

Knockhill Racing Circuit is Scotland’s national motorsport centre and one of the most recognisable venues in the UK racing calendar. Located in Fife, the circuit is best known for its dramatic elevation changes, exposed hillside setting, and high-speed national track layout. For BriSCA-style oval racing, Knockhill adapts its facilities to run a short tri-oval layout, creating a compact, action-filled arena suitable for full-contact stock car formulas.

Knockhill’s stock car events are known for their atmosphere — fast racing, tight corners, and night meetings that deliver an extra level of intensity under the floodlights.

Facilities & Spectator Experience

Knockhill is one of the most spectator-friendly circuits in the UK:

The hillside setting also means spectators can watch from above, giving a stadium-like atmosphere unique among UK circuits.

Circuit Characteristics

  • Type: Short tri-oval
  • Surface: Tarmac
  • Length: approx. 0.3 miles (0.48 km)
  • Style: High-grip, high-speed, short-oval configuration
  • Racing Feel:
    • Quick acceleration zones
    • Hard, committed braking points
    • Close-quarters racing typical of BriSCA-style events
Although Knockhill is larger in its mainstream configuration, the oval layout presents unique challenges:

  • Tight entry points into corners
  • Rapid elevation changes even within the short loop
  • Exposed, windy conditions that often affect racing lines
  • High-speed approach into contact zones
These characteristics make the circuit particularly popular with experienced drivers who enjoy tactical, high-speed oval racing.
